The GOP-conservative spin on the #coronavirus is bizarre and comically contradictory:

It’s not a big deal . . . And it’s also a bio-weapon created by the Chicoms and/or Ruskies . . . Not to mention it’s also “fake news” created by Democrats to harm Trump and the Dow Jones.
They’re setting themselves up for a complete PR fiasco once Americans start dying.
I shouldn’t leave out the Alt-Right meme from weeks ago that the Corona virus only affects Asians.

The Right in America is terminally unserious.
I don’t think Corona is a bio weapon. But if you’re actually going to suggest that—as Rush Limbaugh and others have—then, Holy Shit, this is a huge deal and we should be freaking out.

Tom Cruise’s action films are undeniably exciting. They are so, not because the viewer imagines that “Ethan Hunt” or “Maverick” is caught up in intrigue and danger, but because Tom Cruise himself is—and that he might actually die making these films!
The knock on Tom Cruise the actor was that he always played the same character or always played himself. But that’s missing the point. He always transcended the normal cinematic experience of characters and plots: you went to see *Tom Cruise*, not any film he happened to be in.

That comes with real policy reform, a change of paradigm—which potentially could have been enacted by a Republican Congress.

The absolute numbers (roughly 1 million per year) don't change. And immigrants are going to be highly skilled—thus competing with Americans for STEM, middle-class jobs.

The idea that YouTube‘s banning of Fuentes or anyone else is an “admission of weakness“ or a “defeat in the battle of ideas” is simply stupid and wrong. To the contrary, it’s a flex of Silicon Valley’s power.

At most, getting banned gives one a short burst of energy and sympathy. But it overall creates a chilling effect and marginalizes the individual and the dissent community as a whole.
There’s no “battle of ideas” ultimately, with he who has the best social science winning out. There’s a battle for power. Until the government asserts power over Silicon Valley—and Trump right now is either lazily “monitoring” or being outright obsequious—nothing will change.

There are a wide variety of factors that all seem to be working together to contribute to the 'hysteria', as you call it. It takes some time to explain them, so I'll turn this into a thread to help explain, if you don't mind. There are several things you have wrong, to start.
Let's begin at the beginning, when trying to explain why some people find 2019-nCoV or #coronavirus to be particularly concerning. For reference materials, please use the CDC and/or WHO pages as good starting points:

The first factor that increases 'scariness' of 2019-nCoV is the fact that it is a novel coronavirus, meaning it hasn't been seen before in humans. That makes it potentially dangerous, because humans haven't developed any internal defenses against it yet, unlike with flu/colds.
