There’s a lot about this piece that isn’t great. Let’s start with three things:
First, Wemple’s piece does not substantiate in any way the central claim in its headline. Bertrand reports on matters far beyond the Steele dossier, and MSNBC has her on to speak on a variety of topics. There’s nothing to support the claim she was hired b/c of dossier comments.
Second, Wemple’s piece lacks the humility it demands of others. It faults Bertrand for “believing the specifics of a document whose veracity she and others couldn’t begin to assess,” while hammering on the specifics of the Horowitz IG Report as though it was holy writ.
Third, the Wemple’s zeal to fault Bertrand and defend every aspect of Horowitz’s report leads him to side-step the expert he checked with—who agreed with Bertrand’s point entirely—and fall back on endorsing a criticism from Glenn Greenwald.
