1) Second Assange thread of the moment! See, here's where my point gets proven.
2) What Wikileaks claims to be is a clearinghouse for people to send leaked materials to, in order to expose corruption and injustice. Now, this inherently doesn't sound bad, as the injustice and corruption have to exist for information on them to be leaked, right?
3) This ignores that Russia, China, and Iran, three of the most corrupt and unjust nations in the world, don't ever seem to get anything leaking from them. But I digress.
4) Now, what happens when enough people start realizing your organization is a bunch of assholes who often use the information you provide them as giant encrypted insurance packages? Maybe you don't want to send information to be used in such a way, because you want it exposed.
5) Or, as Assange said is promised in his interview with Colbert, LEVERAGED FOR MAXIMUM POLITICAL IMPACT.
6) So what happens when your sources of leaks dry up for fear of arrest for leaking or because your organization is led by a pretentious prick who's hiding in an embassy because he pulled a bait-and-switch to bareback some thot in Sweden?
7) You set out trying to steal that information yourselves.

Why is this problematic?

Because your organization's entire stated model is waiting for the leaks to come to you so you can protect the leakers and give their information the maximum exposure possible.
8) When you attempt to steal information by hacking your way into a government computer, you do three things. First, you no longer have the justification of preexisting corruption being exposed. Second, you lose your impartiality, because now YOU'RE picking your targets.
9) And third, suddenly you have to ask... if they're willing and able to go after a government computer, how much of a stretch is it to say perhaps that they hacked into the FAR LESS SECURE DNC email servers?
10) Yeah. Think about THAT.
