Put me squarely in the camp that says Trump-Pence owns every bit of the lethal toll this virus will take.
We created nursing home regulations in the Obama Administration to protect patients.

Trump undid them. And now this.

It’s exactly what he’s doing to the EPA on a slightly slower timetable.
People in the CDC who should be spending time leading our response are saying they’ve never seen anything like this as they are being asked to spend significant time on the blame game.

These stories will come out.
Since I wrote this over the weekend, the response appears to have gotten worse, not better.

@chrislhayes Most people won’t give a number and have been asked not to. So I’m piecing together we may be producing 4000/day today and in 4 weeks can have a lot more online 1/
@chrislhayes Lab operators who have been on call are estimating 8 weeks based on what their own timetables are.

One person said they’ve had conversations with the Vice President where they pass their estimates along and he has come out with out of the ballpark numbers right after. 2/

NEW: Because we can’t get a straight answer from the Trump Administration, I have checked with lab companies.

The best estimate is it will be 8 weeks before we have all the nationwide testing we need.
If lab workers become ill, entire labs will need to be shut down, delaying production further. It is seeming critical to me that this workforce effectively self-quarantine.
As we ramp testing over the next weeks, we need to prioritize the tests to the highest priorities: front line workers, clinicians, first responders, and the like.

Things people (like Mike Pence) are starting to think about: cruise ships, airlines, nursing homes, schools, events, the economy

People still being ignored, but who are at risk: food workers, low income communities, homeless, communal living, assisted living (no infection ctrl)
Other places where attention needs to shift and hasn’t:

First responders, health care workforce, prison populations, disability community (always), ICU capacity, ventilator capacity. Medication and other clinical supplies. Uninsured. Family leave policies.
