European Green Deal: a cynic’s (long) #thread. The EU is desperate to lead at *something* and the new boss says it’s going to be CLIMATE. It’s genius if you think about it: it commits #Europe to goals well beyond its leaders’ political (and, for many, physical) lives.
It hinges on making money out of nothing (“leveraging”) and handing it out to some of the biggest delinquents of the bloc. Vintage EU.
It allows the EU to maintain its favorite game, that of moral superiority based on “shared European values” esp vs the US.
Here’s how this works. When the boss says: “for the next 5 years everything is green” the entire system rushes to make everything green. Now you and I may know and believe everything truly is green. Most policies have environmental impact & ramifications.

It was the time we truly realised the power of social media and instant messaging services with regard to disaster management. Many were stranded on roof-tops without any other contact to the world other than their mobile phones. Whatsapp brilliantly solved the issue. (2/n)
