For some of you, it may be the first time working remotely for a large period of time - not just the odd Friday here and there because of #coronavirus

Here are some thoughts on how to keep productive, build trust AND stay sane while working from home or remotely.

/ Dedicated Working Area - If you can, set up a dedicated space to work from. Working from your bed or sofa’s nice now and again, but having a space for work really helps to get in the zone. Image
/ Frequently Clean & Tidy for a better emotional state when not physically moving from A to B

/ Get Some Kit - Instead of hunching over a laptop, get yourself a portable laptop stand, a keyboard & mouse so you’re not just in the right position to work, you also feel like you should be working!

/ Second Screen - If using a Mac and have an iPad, use Sidecar as a second screen. Better yet, if you can have an external monitor or use your TV as an external monitor, you’ll have more “space” to work with. Image
/ Give Yourself A Break! - Use Pomodoro timers (25-30 minute work intervals with a 5 min break) or 90-minute focus sprints to give yourself a break and maintain your focus and productivity. Use @toggl to track your time. Image
/ Intentionally design remote communications - Design remote-team building routines and rituals which allow you to interact with people in your team and company. Image
/ Communicate Differently - Experiment with different communication methods. E.g. @useloom to communicate with teammates and customers through video. It’s exceptional for delivering your message clearly, receiving instant feedback and cutting out the back and forth of emails. Image
/ Virtual Coffee - Have virtual coffee’s with your team if you like. Those passing moments where you’re in the office can still happen remotely and it can help with the loneliness of working from home.

/ Upgrade Your Collaboration “Stack” - Check out @NotionHQ for all things documentation, note-taking, visualising with real-time collaboration & sharing! @MiroHQ for collaborative whiteboarding, ideation and brainstorming. Image
/ Systemise & Codify Your Work - 1st, evaluate your work and tasks. Remove physical and digital interactions that are unnecessary for completing your tasks. Design a system, look for patterns within your tasks and automate them with tools such as apps, platforms and services. Image
/ Digitise Post-Its - If you’re a @Postit person, use the Post-It app to digitise your Post-Its and share them easily with teammates and clients. It's seriously magical! ✨

/ Have a Read - Check out Remote: Office Not Required by @jasonfried & @dhh. They walk through their lessons on remote working and collaborating during their journey building a distributed team and company, @basecamp. Image
/ Making the transition from corporate life to working and collaborating remotely, has taught me focusing on cognitive balance and communication is the most important thing.

Look after your mind and that of others and working remotely will feel much more enjoyable! Image
/ There’s a plus side to all of this remote working. It's an exceptional opportunity to start working more efficiently away from the usual workplace or office. Besides, you might actually get shit done for a change.😉 Image
/ I'd love to hear your thoughts on how you might approach moving to fully remote, as well as the tools you're using to do so?

What would you add that I've missed? Image
/ Thanks to @pablostanley for creating #openpeeps. It was super cool to use these sketches in this little project! Image
