What makes a successful startup (my thoughts on team, product, revenue, focus, customers, and more):
Trust in the people you work with. Let them do their jobs or don’t hire them in the first place.
Respect your customers. Genuinely listen to them and respect what they have to say, even if you don’t agree.
Your product will never be perfect and it’s a waste of time to try. Build what you need to build to get new customers and make current customers happy in order to progress your vision.
Marketing is the rocket fuel. People think marketing is smoke and mirrors. It’s not. Marketing is about sharing your product with the world in an intelligent and compelling way that informs people about what you do and how you can help them. 🚀
Don’t sweat the small stuff, but also don’t ignore it. You can easily get hung up on little details, but at the same time, little details matter. Learn to pick and choose. 😅
Along those lines, you need to be able to distill what’s important from what’s not. Do not focus on anything that’s not important. What’s important is revenue, happiness of your customers/team, and improving your product. Don’t get caught up in anything that doesn’t drive those.
Figure out how you’re going to make money from the start. Revenue will fuel your startup. Without it, everything will be harder and your life will be filled with stress. 💰
Your team is by far the most important aspect of your startup. Ignore everything else I’ve said if you wish, but do not ignore how important it is to work with smart, thoughtful, and kind people who make everyone’s lives easier. Cohesion is key.
There are a lot of factors that add up to a successful startup. 📈 What did I miss?
