I’m very excited to share some news. I am writing a book! #FightingtoInnovate should be coming out with @USNIBooks in 2021.
Thank you so much to @kenixfan for reaching out to me about this in the first place! I am thrilled about the opportunity to work with the great @NavalInstitute community.
"Fighting to Innovate: The Future of Chinese Military Power" will build upon research that I have been pursuing since 2015, exploring Chinese military learning and innovation in emerging technologies.
This is going to be quite a journey, I know. I'm slightly daunted but also incredibly enthusiastic about the process. I am determined to write this book, and I’m going to keep writing like I’m running out of time!
As such, you will see me much less online until I have completed the manuscript, and please forgive me if I am not particularly responsive to emails and messages for the next couple of weeks and months.
I will do my best to keep up with things, but I will be trying to stay as focused as I can — and having to prioritize rather brutally in the meantime, including stepping back from some other projects and commitments at least temporarily that I'd be excited to continue otherwise.
I’m so grateful to the @CNAStech team and whole @CNASdc community, especially @paul_scharre for his support and encouragement (and for initially taking a chance on me!). I'm also very appreciative of @CSETGeorgetown for the great team and wonderful experience over the past year.
I've been trying to balance far too many writing projects and research directions over the past year. It's been tough, honestly. I've been struggling, and I've made plenty of mistakes. I have a lot to learn, and I am learning, including when to say no, so that I can say yes.
This is a yes. I'm truly thrilled. I've been thinking about this for years, but it's taken me awhile to find courage to commit to the project—and now to share the news that I'm writing it. I'm very grateful to so many friends and colleagues for their support and encouragement.
