I’ve seen a number of media takes like “this crisis is where Trump’s credibility problems has real consequences.” Fair.

But that applies equally to mainstream media outlets—when a swath of the country doesn’t trust your reporting/motivations, that has big consequences too.
This is precisely when the need to trust in unbiased/sober reporting is so critical. And yet major news organizations have squandered that trust amid three years of retracted “bombshells,” stories about Trump having two scoops of ice cream and “the walls are closing in.”
So maybe some self-awareness/introspection is in order. Trump didn’t create that distrust—he used it. And the last three years have only made it much, much worse.
