1. Back from the Signature Bridge camp. Let me do some storytelling to help you understand the current situation of these #refugees from Pakistan, what has @humanaidint done for them and what we intend to do.
2. Refugees living in this camp started coming to India since 2018; first camped in a place in Majnu ka Tila, but soon asked to vacate it by the host community. They used to come to this forest to collect firewood. Since no one lived in this vulnerable land, they squatted here.
3. Approximately 50 families lived here until two months ago, but there is influx of new migrants of late. 20 families arrived a month ago, 10 more arrived last week and many more are on their way. But this camp has no electricity, water, sanitation and other facilities.
4. Newly arrived families buy bamboos, collect logs from the forest to erect their temporary shelters. I witnessed them doing it today.
5. But the families have no other assets. Everyone, including children, have to sleep on floors. But last two days' rains didn't allow them even to sleep on floor. It was particularly challenging for the children. @KanoongoPriyank
6. Children do not have any place even to sit. The only chair seen in the photo is of @humanaidint. Nearest school is 3.5 kms away, therefore most of the children do not attend schools. It is unsafe to walk through the forest reach the school.
7. The newly arrived #refugees have some cooking utensils but no food to cook.
8. The families, arrived a month ago, were provided with a month's ration. #HAI is providing now at least 15 days' ration to newly arrived refugees too. Distribution will be done by tomorrow forenoon.
9. These families will also be provided with tarpaulin for roofing and a plastic sheet for the floor. We are also trying to provide wooden bed to the families to protect them from snakes.
10. Within a day or two, we will install at least six solar lights in the camp. As of now, all activities come to a standstill after dusk in absence of electricity. @seriousfunnyguy is working on that.

Remember, we provided solar lights to each family in Majnu ka Tila camp.
11. We are in the process of engaging e-rickshaws to ensure that every child safely goes to school. We are thankful to @TruthSpeaksTuff for his contribution towards this activity.

Universalisation of education is a key objective for us in the camp.
12. Needs are many. Long-term solution can't be sought through casual support. We need regular and predictable support. You may make a contribution here: hai-india.org/support-to-pak…
