Parental involvement in child's learning journey is uncommon in #Pakistan. As the Chairperson of Parents Council 2016of @Gemsfirstpoint I, my team & school worked together 4 the wellbeing of our children. #antibullying policy, core values, parental coffee mornings to name a few...
There is no concept of a Parent Council here. All the work is to be done by the school. Schools don't share the wellbeing and progress of the child with the parents. PTM is the only way to find out. Neither the school nor the parents are interested in forming an alliance...
Parents don't know if their child is suffering from depression, is being bullied, or is under stress. Peer Pressure exists. All we care is the grades. Same is with the school. We may find a career councillor but not a councillor in schools who is actively involved with the kids.
In @Gemsfirstpoint There was a councillor who would sit in the class and quietly observe the kids. She would know who needed a talk or guidance. We need to have this model in #Pakistan.
Those moms & dads who have no time constraints due to work, can easily manage school and parents alliance and keep all the parents on board. Instead of kitty parties and coffee mornings, We need to focus on how can we effectively be involved in our child's learning journey.
Core values are the fundamental beliefs of a person. These guiding principles dictate behavior & can help children understand the difference between right & wrong.
Drugs, bullying, disrespect are so prevalent & parents are so ignorant.
Excessive use of #gadgets, chatting, late night hangouts, #drugs and no parental control has made our children zombies! No #manners, no #values, no #ethics! Parents are not bothered either! We are losing our generation to this nuisance.
When we talk about #Empowerment and it's various forms, let's also focus on #ParentEmpowerment. Giving them power to #guide & #discipline their children and letting them get involved in #Wellbeing and learning journey of their children in school and homes the way it should be.
When children become teenagers, parents are often challenged. To an extent, it is important that the parent continue to set boundaries through the teen years, but it is also necessary to begin giving up some control. But we don't have these technical sessions for Parents in Pak.
They are growing into people as different from us as we are from our parents. It is important to encourage them to express their individuality. Schools & Parents need to work on this together. Regular sessions in schools will help greatly. Time for some serious actions now.
During teenage, the challenge for parents is to learn to expand perceptions, be involved, openminded, develop flexibility & to practice unconditional loving. Grades come later. More important is your child's wellbeing. If child is healthy & happy, grade will automatically improve.
I'd wish to see schools realizing the importance of a parent council which will work on behalf of all parents to discuss educational matters that are of importance to all aswellas empower parents by conducting sessions for them so we have better and disciplined generations ahead.
