What do computer viruses teach us about biological viruses? One answer is that out of the list of what people should do in defense, they'll pick the easiest instead of most effective, and then do it wrong.

"I'm protecting myself by using disinfectant when washing my hands".
The list is:
1. don't go out, stay at home whenever you can
2. when going out, distance yourself
3. wear a mask to avoid infecting others
4. wash your hands more often with soap, or use anti-viral hand sanitizer

Them: I'll use anti-bacterial wipes to clean my hands.
Them: "But when I went to the restaurant I made sure to wipe down the table with these anti-bacterial wipes".

Me: "Anti-bacterial isn't the same as anti-viral, so you are largely just spreading the virus around instead of killing it".

Them: "but they say they kill 99% of germs"

Trump's an ass and the press conference a train reck, but I'm not sure the "firing pandemic team" is one of those things to blame on Trump. It plays to our ignorance of exactly what happened and keys only off the simple word "pandemic".
As far as I can tell, it was about pandemic response in foreign countries (mostly African), not anything domestic. Furthermore, China wasn't one of those foreign countries.
What's the right amount of effort we should be spending internationally on such things as ebola? Were we spending too much? Too little? Maybe it was a wholly ineffective department that couldn't do what it was set up to do.

"Experts"? Uh, no. An expert would tell you that the coronovirus doesn't suspend the law of supply-and-demand. If you remove those fees, then the network will become overloaded.
Everyone moving to work-at-home is going to overloaded the networks causing congestion. If you don't charge people more who are causing the most congestion, then the network will become unusable for everyone.
Sweet! They've removed data caps. Time for me to crank up BitTorrent and start downloading stuff I haven't been able to before.

A little personal reflection.

A trigger warning: cancer, end of life.
I'm sitting in my mother's nursing home room. She is gently fading away with pancreatic cancer. It's now 28 days since she ate anything, so my visits have become silent affairs as she sleeps.

She is fortunate in many ways. No pain to speak of, and she is ready to die.
Still, it's hard to see her like this, so thin except for her distended abdomen. Small, prostrate, weak, and no longer able to apply her sharp mind.

My mother had been a remarkable woman; let me share a few details.
