THREAD: The New York Times claims that Greece is operating a black site on the border with Turkey to detain illegal immigrants.

I'll translate tweets made by @e_amyna that counters the claims made by @PatrickKingsley and @MatinaStevis.
1) On February 28, 2020, an article published in the NYT titled "Turkey Pressing OP for Assistance to Syria Threatens to Open Borders to Refugees" by Matina Stevis-Gridneff and Patrick Kingsley, was solely sourced by 23-year-old refugee Somar al-Hussein.

2) Somar al-Hussein is said to be located on the east bank of Evros in eastern Thrace (European Turkey), opposite Greek town of Alexandroupolis & is facing a serious health problem. It is reported that he has only one hand and severe vision problem.

3) On March 10, 2020, a NYT article published by Matina Stevis-Gridneff and Patrick Kingsley, titled "We Are Like Animals': Inside Greece's Secret Site for Migrants," has again the sole source of the article, the refugee Somar al-Hussein.
4) According to the article, Somar al-Hussein with only one hand and serious vision problem requiring hospital care, finally entered Greece illegally and managed without a phone to record his alleged "secret" geographic coordinates.
5) The so-called black site is located at the village of Poros (latitude 40 ° 53'54.6 "N 26 ° 13'27.1" E) was provided by the two journalists. Truly, the 23-year-old's memory capacity is remarkable, but here are two serious questions:
6)

A/ How convenient is it that the person who gave the interview ("he said by telephone") to the two journalists the February 28th article to also be the sole source of the "revelations" in the March 10th article?
7)

B/ How credible can one's "testimony" of this person be considered, when the basic principle of journalism is the examiniation of information? Was it possible to identify at least one other person among the immigrants with similar "experiences"?
8) When the obvious facts seen above were highlighted today to the journalist Patrick Kingsley by a Greek Twitter user (@Prodactiv), Somar ElHüseyin (aka Somar al-Hussein) suddenly appears to thank him!
9) Simply put, the "Syrian refugee student software engineer, Somar al-Hussein," the sole source for the NYT articles of Feb. 28 and Mar 10 is none other than Somar ElHüseyin, an Istanbul resident & a Software Engineering student at Maltepe University.
10) In view of tomorrow's visit by the President of the Commission, we are calling on (a) everyone to immediately notify the thread, (b) the Greek Government to take legal action against the New York Times for the defamatory report.

End of translation.
Away from the translation of @e_amyna's tweets.

11) I can "understand" the lack of effort by @PatrickKingsley as a presumably non-Greek speaker, but what is truly bewildering is the lack of effort by Greek-born @MatinaStevis who very easily could have done some investigations.
12) For example, this is the "sinister" black site that they took a satellite photo of. Even visually this does not even look like a black site to have illegal immigrants contained and hidden.
Another interesting question is that Somar al-Hussein, the sole source of the NYT's article by @PatrickKingsley and @MatinaStevis, claims he only he's had only one hand since he was a child. But here you can see him taking selfies with both hands.

The sole source of the NYT article, Somar al-Hussein, says he has had a missing hand since he was a child. However, more images of him having a left and right arm can be seen here.
And here the sole source of the NYT article, Somar al-Hussein, admits that he has Turkish citizenship.

The images could definitely be flipped and my suspicions incorrect. What heightens my suspicions though is why did he delete his Twitter account when he was asked about this? He didn't just block me and others who asked, he completely deleted his account.
Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas denied New York Times report saying "There are no secret detention centers in Greece. If an international newspaper knows about its location, it's no secret. All problems related to border protection are solved in a transparent way."
""e-Amyna" unleashes misery on the New York Times: Act now!"

@e_amyna completely rubbished fake news created by the New York Times. See the first tweet onwards of this thread to see how they dismantled the fake news.

“The New York Times (NYT) has disseminated a fake news story that the Greek government was ‘holding illegal migrants who crossed the border from Turkey at a secret “black site” where they are being abused or denied due process.’”

greekcitytimes.com/2020/03/13/new…
U.S. Congressman Gus Bilirakis said "The New York Times should not let its pages be used as a distribution center for Turkish government talking points."

NYT has been caught out with Fake News (once again) and are refusing to apologize or acknowledge it.

"Those that have been arrested [in Greece] are not Syrian asylum seekers but migrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Somalia and Turkey itself."
A good thread that raises many important questions like why Reuters could access the "black site" that @PatrickKingsley says he couldn't; why 12 journalists could only find ONE on record source; and, why comments by the Greek government were ignored.
