I'm noticing a lot of white pple on twitter sharing their #COVIDー19 status+protocol for being diagnosed (which is helpful) but also wow: publicizing your sickness knowing it won't be racialized is a different kind of privilege...
Sick white people are individuals to be treated for their illness(es) accordingly. Sick BIPOC are an infected monolith to be avoided at all costs.

Yesterday I asked if my film students had seen Fight Club. Everyone stared at me blankly.

Since so many of my white male students are exploring male rage in their work I didn’t want Joker to be their only cinematic reference.

The first rule of fight club: watch Fight Club.

Also also: someone should cobble together a course exploring unfettered & often weakly motivated white male rage in the cinematic canon+ties to our current state of existence. Not a WOC or Black Woman Professor though—that would be disproportionate emotional & intellectual labor.

We have to investigate this.

Are "single mothers" murdering the fathers of their children and burying them in a mass grave?

I am concerned.

Whatever the answer: "single mothers" are definitely to blame. No question about that.

White parents, why are you producing so many young white male terrorists? What is going on in your households? How involved are you with your sons? Are you missing signs their racism is filtering out of commonplace household racism into "I want to murder strangers" racism?
Asking for humanity.
What I'm gathering from this thread is "It's harder to NOT raise a racist child than you think!" and wow...if that's not telling.

Give people enough rope and they hang themselves every time.

This makes several useful points about cohort. Are we comparing apples with apples? Are the cohort selection criteria the same from state to state and country to country.

The answer is clearly NO regarding country to country.

Something is going badly wrong in USA
In the U.K. the Dept of Health are correctly imposing a nationally coherent strategy with common surveillance software.

As is evident from the embedded thread, in the USA they cannot say with any certainty how many people have been tested in each state and county.
So who knows what meaning to attach to positive tests?

Firstly. Why would the CDC or states or counties seek to conceal the number of tests being carried out?

I can’t think of a good scientific reason.

Political ones maybe..but not good for citizens.

1. RELIEF FUND: Until we have univ. health care we need an emergency health relief fund. The # of critical cases, meaning cases requiring significant medical intervention, are more than ten fold the number of deaths. For many this will result bankruptcy levels of medical debt.
2. ER COVERAGE: Health Insurance companies should not be allowed to deny coverage for treatments that are not 'pre-approved' or "FDA approved' as all of the treatment options for severe cases of COVID are 'off-label'

“I’m not a perfect person” should never be in an so-called apology. It implies that they’re apologizing because others’ standards of behavior are too high.

No one believes perfect people exist. No one expected it of you. Cut it out and just apologize and own up to what you did.

I’m noticing that Hill’s repeating the Al Franken moves of call for an ethics investigation but later resigning.

It’ll be interesting to see if this will become a pattern among congresspersons, like the “sex rehab” move was briefly popular for celebrities.

Your personal blamelessness with regard to racism (and none of us are blameless, obvs, but let's assume as a thought experiment that you are) has nothing to do with your accountability to the world, and Black and brown people specifically, due to your membership in whiteness.
By "membership" I don't mean something you get to choose. You don't. It doesn't matter if you don't want to be white, don't feel white, don't "act white," whatever. You benefit from being (or appearing--long digression possible there) white, and that means--this is the key--
