We *have* to do all we can to ensure casualised workers get paid whether work is cancelled / they have to distance/self isolate. Cannot get out of my head how bad this will be for hourly paid + zero hours workers; self-employed indies will struggle a lot too. #Covid19 #Precarity
Thinking about #UCUStrikes: this situation highlights SO MUCH of why we're on strike for decent & fair pay + conditions + fair pensions. Huge overwhelming workload + burnout + pressures of precarity + inequality endanger us + our students even before there's a #Covid19 pandemic
So many precarious HE workers are *terrified* +urgently need reassurance from employers they won't be left penniless +/or homeless by #Covid19 sickness/isolation/distancing detriment.

It is emphatically NOT reassuring that many HEIs have thus far failed to really address many + complex very real fears, are moving very slowly, some even responding to ppl with health concerns they should still come to work . We can't afford this faffing.
I was signed off sick in 2013 when I had 8 jobs across 2 unis. Some hourly paid, some ZHCs, some p/t fixed term contracts. Total was < full time though spent WAY > full time incl necessary unpaid work. Got no sick pay for several contracts, *had* to come back early to pay rent
WTAF would I have done if this situation had hit then? Reports of GTAs + other hourly paid staff not even receiving institutional #Covid19 emails because they're *not on staff lists* = a really disgusting indication of the level of purposeful invisibilising of casualised staff
