I have issues with #BurnsNight cos Rabbie was such a goat w/ the ladies but still there are interesting women round him... so a THREAD 👇 Burns 1st poem, O Once I Lov'd A Bonny Lass, was inspired by his passion for 'Handsome Nell' a co-worker on this farm 👇 He was 15. 🙄 /1 Mount Oiphant Farm in Ayr where Burns worked as a boy
Burns wrote poetry about women his whole life incl some who had writing talent. In 1787 in Edinburgh he met 9 sisters - the Ferriers. Obvs he penned them a poem. Rabbie's most famous paramour was married. He nicknamed Agnes McLehose 'Clarinda' in a series of smoking love letters but she fled to Jamaica to her husband. They didn't reconcile. Rabbie said Agnes' poetry was 'worthy of Sappho'. Health minister Matthew Hancock has been paid £thousands by a board member/Donor of the IEA “think tank” - who’s principle policy is the privatisation of the NHS - to avoid being paid directly by US lobby companies behind IEA.

The IEA refuses to disclose its donors..

Hancock you may recall was behind a crackdown on charities lobbying (ie for better health outcomes) even tho he was himself being paid by the commercial lobby behind IEA - these amounts came principally via Conservative party donor & IEA board member - Neil Record.

..Now we have IEA/Neil Record who want to muzzle charity lobbies from fighting for better health outcomes having funnelled money to current Health Minister Matthew Hancock..
