I want to make a thread about how to support doujin producers in Japan because they’re also hurting from mass event cancellations the same way Artist Alley folks here are. However, I need to confirm if Pixiv Booth/fanbox no longer accept foreign credit cards...
Anyway, you might want to check if Japanese artists you’re following are on skeb.jp, if you sign in with Twitter you’ll see who is on the service and taking commissions!

I feel like the “this game/movie/comic/media is the sole vision of an artist” push we’ve seen over the past two decades is spoiling The Discourse in a lot of ways, particularly when it comes to revising/editing content
So much media is a product of multiple people, all of whom have a say in some element. Even authors/directors/producers rarely have the last say with so much corporate involvement and so much money at stake.
So many figures and factors that influence media are invisible. Your favorite manga may look like a one-person creation, but the editor wields an immense amount of control, and reader feedback surveys can literally determine a story’s direction

I’m seeing a lot of translations of the Japanese twitter slapfights between hardcore right-wing otaku and feminists over posters but very little In English about the lady otaku who are saying “don’t drag us into this, let us do shipping and fujoshi stuff in peace”
Like... do these people trying to drag these debates to English speaking fandom ever think to talk to the many, many women otaku on their thoughts?

Thinking about the quote "Abusers groom their character witnesses just as carefully as their victims" and man, is it ever right on the money

It's exactly why you need to really examine your relationship with someone you know when they are accused of abusive behavior
I've had some people I've been friendly with be outed as doing some pretty awful things during 2019, and it's never easy to realize someone you had faith in is actually really awful, but denying it to yourself and others only makes it worse
No job opportunity or social standing is worth defending a garbage person's ability to be garbage while you're not looking. Just because they did you favors or were nice to *you personally* does not make them good people

Taking money in this movement can hurt a person's credibility because people will start to view them as a business. Reaching out can then be viewed as marketing. Shares, likes, hits and views are then looked at as gains.
