Teachers: please do not look at virtual learning as an opportunity to give students more work because they will have time to do it while they are at home. They will probably have less time than normal. Some might be looking after siblings as parents work. 1/?
Some might be helping other family members cope with anxiety or might be dealing with it themselves. Students deserve time to cope just like everyone else right now. Think of different ways that you can have your students learn and support their mental health. 2/?
Look at giving students projects that give them the freedom to explore, investigate, and learn things that are meaningful to them. If there was ever a time to explore #PBL, now is the time. Work to guide students through their learning. 3/?
Instead of lecturing through video conferencing for 50 minutes. Check in on their mental state. Ask how they are doing. Encourage their explorations of Science, Math, ELA, and more. Building life long independent and confident learners is not easy, but here is a great chance. 4/?
Most of all, let’s treat our students with compassion the next few weeks and do our best to hide the attendance sheets and grade books.Focus on wellness for yourself and your students. Focus on the love of learning. Do these things and everyone will be a little better.

PS: I put together my thoughts on how and why to use Project Based Learning during this time. I thought someone might find it helpful.
