to recreate a powerpoint type lecture, but as a video of slides with voiceover, you can just open QuickTIme and choose File --> New Screen Recording.

Two important options in the pull down menu beside the record button: do you want mouse clicks visible or hidden (I use it kind of like a pointer). and same pull down menu lets you turn on the mic options. (default screen recording is no sound).
Don't even need iMovie or other editing software. QuickTime's editing features "trim" from beginnings and endings, and also lets you tack on other video files to the end or beginning of the file. End of basic "slides w/ voice over" thread. next thread is for talking-head version.
Oh one more thing— it's a bit unintuitive to end the screen recording: you have to go down to the dock menu, right click on the QuickTime icon, then choose stop recording. there's probably a shortcut too, but no controls visible on the screen while recording.
