17 years ago I spent a lot of time at 222 Main Street Vancouver criminal court. I got sick. Pneumonia. It had long-lasting effects.
I just spent 2 days in court and all I could think was the risk to which we are all exposed. I am particularly concerned about the elderly.
Including my elderly colleagues and judges and my family.
In these circumstances it would be reasonable to refuse to go to work. As lawyers if we refuse to go, we face career changing discipline.
What’s more important? Your life, the lives of others or your career as a lawyer?
You can guess where I stand on that.
It’s time for the @BCProvCourt and @Dave_Eby to take action here. If this gets from a lawyer to a prisoner or a witness to a sheriff to a judge...
I don’t want to think about it. I sure as heck don’t want to give my life for a minor trial.

Oaths are important. I took the Barrister’s oath and reflect on it regularly. I have been present when new lawyers take their oath. I have administered it many times. Sometimes we discuss it a bit so it’s clear to everyone the obligations. I have reminded some lawyers of it.
US senators have an oath:
Oath of Office
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.

There is no way Scheer will win a majority. He may get his shot at PM if the seat split makes it impossible for a stable Liberal minority government. But it’s unlikely. We’re looking at a possible Italian job.
The Conservatives are going to have to do some soul searching when this is done. Creepy Harper was capable of keeping the the yellow vest people in line. Scheer let them loose and gave them a hug. Manning is the one that brought them in and normalized them as Conservatives.
The creepy right can’t win an election in this country. People see through it. Harper was a dictator in his party and even he couldn’t keep a lid on it. And he’s a control freak. They may be out for eternity if they don’t dump the yellow-vest creeps.

1/ Just went through the second video on Retirement Crisis that @RaoulGMI has done. Highly recommend both.

Watching the first one on youtube is what got me started on @realvision actually.

Here are my notes and thoughts on the second video.

2/ To be transparent, the focus of the notes are for what I'm going to do in my late 30s. I'm very lucky, my parents always lived well below their means, now in late 60s own rental property, no debt, plenty of cash on hand, and good income.

That gives me a lot of peace of mind.
3/ This video is like the capstone course on the perils of passive indexing.

It took me a while to figure out my view of it, but am starting to look at passive investing as keeping up with the Joneses.

Doing it I'm not getting wealthier in relation to my peer group.

3-1989 Taef Accord marked end of the civil war. Soon thereafter, Reconstruction of post-war #Lebaon program started under Rafic Hariri. Debt was to going to finance this effort. Starting in 1993 & in mere 7 years, debt grew from $4 billion to $25 billion

2-The seeds of the #Viciouscircle that the Mideast region finds itself in today were planted at least 5 decades ago. Excessive public spending without matching revenues were the catalyst to a faulty & dangerous incentive system that helped to balloon populations beyond control
3-A governance system that was ostensibly put in place to help the poor ended up being a built-in factory for poverty generation. Excessive subsidies helped misallocate resources & mask the true cost of living for households. Correlation between family size and income was lost
