There are many viruses which can affect the respiratory system (throat, lungs)

Depending on how bad the virus (bad means ability to cause bad to you) is and how good your immune system is and the number of viruses attacking you
The Following Can Happen
1. Virus is killed by your immune system (if the virus cannot cause bad to you, less virus comes, you have good immune system) and it cannot go out of your nose or mouth

2. Virus comes and gets away unharmed
3. Virus comes and gets multiplied in your throat or lungs, but is not able to cause disease to you but spread to others from you (called carrier)

4. Virus comes, gets multiplied, spreads to others from you and damages your throat only (Sore Throat )

1. To Understand that Health Care is a scarce Resource
2. Hospital is not a Hotel where you order from Menu.
3. You cannot ask what you like. Like What you get
4. Doctors and Health Administrators also have Smartphones
They also have read the news You have read. If they do something different, it is because, in addition to these 4 to 5 articles, they have also read 40000 Pages during MBBS and have treated thousands of patietns and handled many epidemics and outbreaks. They know MORE than you
5. If you suggest something and if an expert says it won't work, please accept it. The expert would have thought of the same idea when he was in 2nd Year MBBS itself and hence is very confident that it does not work. It does not mean that the doctor is not able to understand

So what do we do in the hospital

If the covid19 attacks lungs the patient can't breathe
We give them oxygen in face mask if attack is less
If attack is more
We put them on ventilator

We need to give dialysis to the patient

Treatment depends on how good or bad the lung is or liver is or kidney is

The test result has NO role in treatment of the individual

Treatment depends on how each organ in the patient functions

We can know how many people are affected and whether rate of spread is more or less with time

For that it is enough to test a certain number of people

That is what we are now doing

@alanpage It's very telling that manual testing is seen as cheap.

IME this perception exists because (as I have repeatedly seen at clients) the absolute most junior people are hired as testers in order to keep costs down. Because they’re so junior they don’t contribute very much. 1/2
@alanpage 2/3 They stay junior because they have no mentorship (because mentorship is expensive).

The “5x to 15x” cost of automation proposed by the OP fits with this model: median developer pay is around $150k US. A team of five devs then costs ~$750k annually (considering TC only here)
@alanpage 3/4 Glassdoor lists “QA Analyst” roles as starting at $18k US. I’m in NYC so this is lower than I’ve ever seen. Let’s assume QA roles start around $25k, which is just enough to rent a room and live paycheck to paycheck in NYC.

The cheapest QA analyst costs 17% of a dev salary.
