With my second background in emergency management - I thought I’d start tweeting some daily tips during this #COVID19 pandemic. During a crisis some people have a tough time mentally coping with the overload of information and the concern, worry and many unknowns that exist. 1/
A crisis can paralyze you mentally. What might seem like common sense normally, isn’t during a crisis. It’s a normal psychological response to have. So, today I want to focus on grocery shopping. 2/
If you’re above the age of 60 or have a compromised immune system, think about getting your groceries delivered. Many local stores offer home delivery or curbside pick-up. My wife and I just subscribed to “Misfits Market” – they do weekly vegetable/fruit delivery. 3/
When shopping, try to wipe down the shopping cart or basket with cleaning wipes or hand sanitizer. Many stores have sanitizing stations located near main entrances. 4/
Think about shopping during off-peak times. If you’re working from home, your schedule might be a bit more flexible to accommodate this. 5/
Make a shopping list of what you need. This will help limit the time at the store. How often do you walk around aimlessly thinking about what to buy? 6/
What meals can last? What meals make good leftovers? If you’re unable to consume it within 4 days, freeze it until you’re ready to eat the rest. 7/
Use caution buying food which could have been handled by others – example: the produce section. It might be a good idea to go with prepackaged/frozen items. 8/
Don’t hoard – only take what you need. This will help limit people from making unnecessary trips to the store. Try to plan for what you need for a week. 9/
Please share and add to this list! More to come in the days ahead!
