A glimpse under the covers. Indonesia's Health Ministry still updating Twitter on yesterday's corona details. Here it reveals WHERE some of the 134 confirmed @COVID19 cases are - West Java Province (1), Banten Province (1) Central Java Province (1) & DKI Jakarta (14). 117 to go
The Indonesian Health Ministry answered the WHERE question for the 17 newest cases announced yesterday (Mar 16) & hopefully that step in the direction of transparency will continue but it should say where all 134 cases have been detected. thejakartapost.com/news/2020/03/1…
At least four other Indonesian provinces - Yogyakarta, Bali, North Sulawesi and West Kalimantan - have recorded #COVID19 cases. Meanwhile, a lot of eyes remain on Riau Islands province...
Singapore has taken the unusual step of donating personal protective equipment (PPE) and ventilators to Batam city hospitals in Indonesia's Riau Islands province to help treat #COVID19 patients. No confirmed cases have been announced in the province. thejakartapost.com/news/2020/03/1…
Singaporean Consul General in Batam Mark Low handed over 50 hazmat suits and two ventilators to Batam Mayor Muhammad Rudi on Friday (Mar 13) "as the city braces for a surge of infections," reported the Jakarta Post yesterday (Mar 16).
“We appreciate the help from the Singapore government. Batam and Singapore have enjoyed a long relationship,” Batam Mayor Muhammad Rudi said at the Singaporean consulate general office in Batam, a mere 70-minute ferry ride from the Singapore.
Batam Island is the closest part of Indonesia to Singapore and is part of a free trade zone in the Indonesia–Malaysia–Singapore Growth Triangle & is also part of the Indonesia–Malaysia–Thailand Growth Triangle.
Singapore's donation of PPE & ventilators to Batam came after Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong spoke by phone to Indonesian President Joko Widodo on March 11 to reaffirm Singapore’s commitment to work with Indonesia to fight the #COVID19Pandemic straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/i…
Speaking yesterday (Mar 16) to reporters at the State Palace in Bogor, President Jokowi said he had spoken to PM Lee last week & Indonesia was open to accepting Singapore's offer of help. "If they want to help us, we will accept it," he was quoted as saying.
In response to media queries, a spokesman from Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “Singapore has been in close touch with the relevant Indonesian ministries and agencies on the Covid-19 situation, including on the provision of medical equipment to Indonesia."
"The Singapore government has also contributed personal protective equipment to the Batam Health Office at its request,” the Singapore Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman said. It seems from that remark that Batam reached out to Singapore for help with PPE & hospital equipment.
