Why is it important to have a mentor in Buddhism? A thread.
If you want to excel at something then you need a great teacher or mentor. We see this throughout history.
Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. along with Socrates and Plato.
In Buddhism, a mentor is someone who gives their all to the Bodhisattva vow—the wish for all people to become equal to the Buddha. Moved by the incredible actions of the mentor, a disciple too awakens to this vow and fights together for the happiness of the people.
In Buddhism, the mentor-disciple relationship is not one of hierarchy but rather, equality. #nextlevel
This equality is based on the fact that Buddhism is rooted in the belief that each person inherently possesses the Buddha nature, or highest life potential.
“Mentors and disciples are like runners in a relay race. They are pressing ahead, passing the baton forward on the shared path of justice, happiness and peace for all humanity. The mentors run ahead, to later pass the baton to the disciples.” - Daisaku Ikeda
A true mentor awakens us to the greatness of our own life. #amazing
