Some working from home tips.
A thread 🧵
Also happy to help with any questions since I’ve been doing this almost once a week for the past 3 years.
1 - It’s important to stay active. You might only walk to the bus stop or train station but even this can make a difference. Walk, jog, cycle. You can even do all 3. Once in the morning, at lunchtime and when you finish.
2 - Take regular breaks. Build these into a daily schedule. Working from home can become monotonous so step away from the laptop and make a cup of tea or coffee. Text a friend. Do some reading. Just don’t get too distracted and get back to work according to your schedule.
3 - Try eating healthy and cooking yourself. This will help take your mind off things and also save you money. If you like to meal prep normally you will now have time to prepare something fresh each day. It’s up to you but I prefer to make my lunch each day when working at home
4 - Make sure you set up a comfortable workstation for yourself. By this I mean sitting upright and not slouching. I don’t have a desk but I use the kitchen table and I have a monitor as well as my laptop screen. The top of the screen should be level with your eyes if possible.
5 - Having a VPN helps but if you don’t there are numerous free tools you can use to transfer and download files. Email is the easiest but if you are transferring multiple or large files try WeTransfer - wetransfer.com
It’s quick and easy and you don’t need an account
6 - Use the cloud. Set up a Dropbox & Google drive account. Both work well for transferring files but the advantage of Google drive is the office suite linked to your account. It’s basically Microsoft office online and free to use. Microsoft online also works but I prefer google.
7 - For calls, meetings there are a number of options. Agree on which you will use ahead of your call or meeting. You will need an account for all of these. Here are some options:
Zoom - zoom.us

MS Teams - products.office.com/en-us/microsof…

Skype - skype.com/en/
8 - For project management & collaboration there are some good options. Get familiar with these if you can and it will improve your experience. 1st one is Trello - trello.com
It has a great calendar view and I find it best for creating and managing a content calendar
9 - Another collaboration tool I use is Basecamp - basecamp.com
Probably not as user friendly as Trello but worthwhile if you get familiar with it. Both rely on team members having accounts so it makes sense to use whichever your team is already using.
10 - Many of these have good mobile app versions that make it very handy if you’re out and about or on the road. If you have an other suggestions I’d love to hear them and if you have any questions on any of this I’m happy to help. 🤓
We all have a part to play during #COVID19
11 - WhatsApp can also be a useful tool but please do not use it to get updates or spread rumours from unverified sources. Twitter, Facebook and other social media channels can also be used or abused. Take a break from these when you can and work these breaks into your schedule.
12 - Technology advances make #workingfromhome easier than ever. Let’s play our part and help those on the frontline by reducing the burden on medical staff and hospitals. Listen to their advice and reduce physical contact with others. We got this! 👍
