All "Mechanical ventilation for dummies" videos in one thread so we can have a bit of discussion around each topic. All questions encouraged, will try to answer to the best of my knowledge! @lberto_Medina #SoMe4MV #PedsICU
I will dedicate each video to a friend and ask them to help me with the discussion (no pressure). We are learning together, and we are a team!
1. Lung simulator. Here we learn how to build a low cost simulation device to help with our teaching. And who will be better to discuss simulation than my colleague @davidgrantsim!
2. Volume control, basic settings in a Servo i. We review the basic parameters to ventilate a 50kg teenager/young woman. @mattdc78 is my partner in crime to establish everyone in VC!
3. Volume control, basic settings in a PB840. We have no conflict of interest, every ventilator does "the same" in slightly different ways. The more examples we get, the better. Any comments, @Mart12373343 ?
4. Volume control, pressure time curve. The good old panic attack with the Peak pressure. Very important to explain the bedside what you are doing if is not your "standard" mode, isn't it @KateeBaptiste?
5. Volume control, flow time curve. Important for recognition of mode in a ventilator you don't know well, and to assess obstruction. @PhysioGates, what will you do if you see a change?
6. Volume control, volume time curve. Good one to check for leaks. If you see them, do you have a standard procedure to find the origin, @omeraziz001 ?
7. Compliance and resistance, a break from bedside settings. @lberto_Medina adds a bit of Asturian booze to make it more appealing! 😂 @Martin_Kneyber, what will be your Dutch equivalent?
