My mom and dad both did factory work for several years after arriving in this country. Since we seem to be sharing so much these days, I will confess to you that I also spent some time inside a factory, despite being a child. The reason for this message is a painful one.
It's painful for my eyes to read that one reason we are short of surgical gowns/masks/ventilators & much else that we need to climb this #Covid19 mountain is that we are waiting for supplies made in other countries, primarily in Asia. My dad told me many years ago that
No country with self respect gives up manufacturing the things people need in an emergency. I don't think Canadians lack self respect. But we need to brutally honest with other. The shortag of emergency goods needs to stop now. We need to make what we need to survive.
I don't want to depend on the workers of any other country for saving the lives of my family and yours. My message to the leadership of our governments and business and unions. Please please do what it takes to ramp up the factories we still have to produce what we need now.
There will be no shortage of Cdn labour available. But if there is & you need Adler hands that never lose their factory memory, I will punch a clock. It's the least I can do for the human beings who have given me a great Canadian life. Let's MAKE things again for our people.
