This article is based on dozens of interviews with frontline staff and medical experts.
There are no easy answers here. Some of the decisions made on protective equipment have strong backing from experts. But there is also widespread anxiety from doctors and nurses about the lack of supply and almost no confidence in government.
This is one of the main issues going into the next few months. Medical staff will work to keep us safe. We've a duty to understand the issue and apply pressure on government to keep them safe.
