Can’t sleep. People do not appreciate the mass death we’ll see in US jails, prisons, & detention centers unless we mass release people. 2.3 million incarcerated. Hundreds of thousands officers. No ability to distance. Bad med care. 95% return home at some point anyway. Start now.

2)More jailed just pretrial than ALL incarcerated in India

Resistance by those in power to any release. So start easy. Release those:
-Jailed pretrial for misdemeanors. Nonviolent felonies. “Violent” felonies w/o injury
-Caged on technical (noncriminal) parole/probation violations
-Serving less than 1 yr term for lowlevel offenses

While I don’t think we should be drawing any lines, let’s all agree to release everyone:
-Within the last 2 years of their sentences
-Older than 55 (read up on extraordinarily low recidivism)
-Younger than 16
-In ICE detention.
-With serious health conditions.

That’s all on the back end. On the front end, police stop:
-Stop & frisk
-Executing warrants for misdemeanors & violations
-Arresting for “quality of life” offenses: Drug possession, marijuana, trespass (homelessness), petit theft, fare evasion, suspended licenses

Prosecutors need to:

🚨🚨In response to this thread, I just heard from a Bellevue (hospital that cares for Riker’s patients) Doctor who wishes to remain anonymous: “I just moved a Rikers patient to our ICU for COVID. I am terrified of what is going to happen in prisons and jails.”
And like that, my 4.5 year old just crawled into my bed. Whispered in my ear “I love you.” Told me the light on my phone is too bright. And so now it’s finally sleep time. More tomorrow.
HELP ME? Yup. I’m begging right now. This is the real deal. NY state democrats right now planning to jail more people. Please let @NYGovCuomo & @NYSenDems that now is not the time to jail more New Yorkers. Seriously. Please just @ them. Now. Tell them #NoRollBacks on bail reform.
