If you look at Italy, which is 1/6th the US' size they are likely to have over 20K deaths if they are halfway through. So at Italian fatality rates a 100K is possible.
At present the US has 7 fatalities per million vs Italy's 178. The UK has 18, France 40 and Germany 6. Granted they are on different stages of the curve, but they are not all going to finish up the same.

The world is lumpy. You cannot speak of a disease -- or immunity -- as if it were uniformly distributed through a population. Lockdowns are a way of surfacing information but you have to act on that data to localize and prosecute the contact.
What lockdowns do is force the carriers into immobility. After a time the symptomatics reveal the presence of the disease so the medical system can attack it. But waiting for symptoms is slow. If a test can "ping" the virus it can go much faster.

Perhaps in the end politics will divide into two camps. Not left vs right. Not Republican vs Democrat. But between those resigned to die on the bottom and those who will do whatever it takes to surface.

The 2020 election is likely to be close. Trump's approval rating & GDP growth suggest that he'll win about 49% of the two-party vote, per our modeling. He's clearly competitive, especially when Democrats need to win the popular vote by about ~2.5pts to win the electoral college.
So the "electability" of the candidates is a particular concern for Democrats.

So what do we know about who is more likely to win general elections?
