The B.C. government has announced a rental rebate of up to $500/month through BC Housing.

"If you can pay your rent, you should pay your rent," says John Horgan, but says it's designed for people that need it most.
"B.C. is suspending current and future evictions until this crisis has passed," says John Horgan.

An official moratorium on evictions, with some exceptions that haven't been announced.
If you're a renter in British Columbia who can't work because of #COVID19, you can now receive:

- $2,000 a month from the federal government
- $500 a month from the B.C. government
- A one-time $1,000 payment from the B.C. government
Property taxes are up to municipal government.

Mortgage policy is largely up to the federal government.

There are some pushing a full cancellation of rent, but these are largely folks the government has sidelined on housing policy issues all along.

Also: like local governments taking their cues from the province, provincial governments are taking cues from the federal government.

With the length of this crisis unknown, they don't want to take measures that may not be legally supported by measures in Ottawa.
Here is the full list of housing measures by the B.C. government.

Important to clarify that the government will give the rent supplement of up to $500/month directly to landlords.

Government also says the rent freeze is retroactive to March 1, so rents can't go up next week.
This is more or less correct: to get up to $2,500 a month (plus a one time $1,000 payment), renters in B.C. who have been laid off due to #COVID19 will have to fill out three forms, with the money coming in different times over the next five weeks or so.
