We had plans & systems in place to cope with just this sort of emergency, but the people in charge of the federal government were a) in such denial about the seriousness of Covid-19 & b) such incompetents when it comes to running the government of which they are in charge...
...that we are now facing a death toll and an economic toll far in excess of what it would have been had we just had non-idiots running the country. It's a low bar, being a non-idiot, but sadly the folks in the executive branch were not able to get over it.
It's water under the bridge now & thousands (if not many more) people will needlessly die during this pandemic, & we will spend years trying to recover from the economic contraction that will now last far longer than it would have if we'd responded sooner and more aggressively.
The virus is not Trump's fault, but the series of enormous unforced errors that have marked his Administration's response to the virus are entirely his fault...
It's also the fault of the folks who thought it was a good idea to vote for a crass narcissist who knew not a single thing about the country he is now running. "What the hell have you got to lose?" Well, we're sure learning the answer to that question now.
