I remember reading a great article by Leonard Leo of The Federalist Society where he argued that the truly conservative vision of federalism involves states being appropriately appreciative of the President in order to get federal support, or something like that.
Oh wait. I forgot that all important footnote where Leo made clear that this vision of federalism only applies when a Republican is president. Otherwise, true federalism means that states should have more power and authority than the federal government. Silly me.
The irony, of course, is that if The Federalist Society truly wanted to follow the original intent of founders like Madison and Hamilton (who wanted to minimize state power as much as possible) then they should be in favor of federal supremacy and weak states.
