Reupping this book recommendation if you’re looking for something to take your mind off things, but be forewarned, it will not entirely take your mind off things.
Official fecklessness, global spread of information faster than the disaster but ignored except where it wasn’t, acts of heroism and grace, a rapid mobilization across society, I will say the words “South Africa” and warm that the book gave me new nightmares 10+ years later, etc

I would recommend you not make plans which are contingent on that state of affairs continuing.

Every public and private org in Japan will have a conversation tomorrow, and in lamentably many cases for *the first time* tomorrow, on what their coronavirus strategy should be. Some will act; some will start planning to act.

This business model, and this is not legal advice, is very clever.
From a product perspective: you believe there is basically a pure arbitrage opportunity on the letters "Esq." at the end of a letter and are making it available at minimal cost.

From supplier perspective: you are a reliable stream of low-complexity work orders.
I speculate, with rather high confidence, that most transactional lawyers a) affirmatively dislike this work, b) would do it it for clients' convenience, c) would not work with clients of this service, and d) are aware of and would be deeply skeptical of the arbitrage mechanism.

Businesses renegotiate contracts all the time, for many reasons, and the attempt to renegotiate a contract is both a) not a refusal to honor the original contract and b) not a thing you should, in general, be particularly offended by.
People have rather good intuitions for this when they're e.g. asking a bank CSR to waive an overdraft fee but they do not necessarily have the same intuitions when e.g. a client says "So, that money you think I owe you: can I pay you less than that, and later than you want it?"
And indeed there are some circumstances where you *should happily agree* to a renegotiation against your narrow interests!

SUMMARY:

In chs. 9–10, Job responds to Bildad’s rather simplistic and callous theology.

Understandably, he doesn’t respond to it well.

In fact, in emotional terms, Job seems to be at his worst in chs. 9–10.

His accusations against God are at their most hostile and irreverent,
which is largely due to Bildad’s uncharitable claims. (A speech which slanders a man’s recently deceased children is unlikely to do him much good: 8.4.)

Book 43 of 2019:

This was a fascinating read into how artificial intelligence will affect our lives, as well as the philosophical debates that surround it. Max Tegmark once again does a great job. He’s a wonderful writer. I look forward to whatever his third book happens to be

Ok, as promised I reread Starship Troopers for the first time in... I dont even remember how many years, and yeah, since the last time I read it, I definitely let popular culture reshape my views on it. To all the Youtubers who call it 'Fascistic', it's not.
Book 45 of 2019:

This book was excellent & @mtaibbi continues to prove just how valuable his voice is. Even when I disagree with the guy, I cant deny that his thoughts/feelings come from a legitimate place. I’ve read a few of his books & they’re always worth the time/money

1/ I finished @nntaleb's new #book Skin in the game, and here are my learnings, insights and notes.

Warning: this thread is going to be huge.
2/ Human systems are systems within systems, interacting in complex ways. No article / paper / logic can capture all interactions of such systems and their evolution over a non-trivial amount of time.

So fear one shot, large scale interventions (such as invasions, UBI, CRISPR)
3/ People with fuck you money should call out famous or powerful people when they are wrong
