So 3.5 millions home tests were allegedly bought (although it’s not clear whether they were antibody tests (blood test to know who was sick) or not-yet-commercialised antigen tests (blood test to know who is sick)
Just a comforting headline then?
Where are they?
Note all tests have caveats
Antibody: need to spot the right coronavirus antibody+you can be sick &not have antibodies yet
Swab: The most reliable but sample collection is risk for collector and may miss the virus+lab analysis required (also risk)
Antigen: promising but not there
I’ve seen promising prototypes of easier to widespread swab tests. Antibodies tests claiming to be reliable (once antibodies are there). A few mentions of antigen non-commercialised tests.
And a ”we’ve just bought 3.5 m -well we don’t know exactly what kind of tests yet“ headline
Testing is complex. There’s no easy solution, at least not now.
Choices must be made, chosen options must be explained clearly -caveats included. Me think a simultaneous combination of different types of tests may be advised acc to the purpose/situation
I’ve seen nothing of that.
#Breaking
Virus circulation could be tracked by sewage surveillance
"Sewage surveillance could also serve as early warning of the emergence and re-emergence of Covid-19 in cities"

So here comes candidate #4:
After Swab test, Antibody test, Antigen test...
Stool test.
Seriously if all people have to do to provide a sample is wearing a diaper once, that kind of NHS/home mass testing may not be as silly as it sounds.
Something to maybe consider?
