Friends, I want to write about Trump's new fuel-economy standards, but I face a strange difficulty. I'm very familiar w/ the many reasons they are Bad, but I'm having a hell of a time finding anyone who will claim they are good or necessary. Even the admin's own rulemaking...
... basically concludes it's a wash. The auto companies don't want this, consumers don't want it, even the RW base doesn't seem to care much. It is, to all appearances, just pure nihilist momentum, destroying Obama stuff because it's Obama stuff.
But that doesn't make for a very interesting post! Can anyone point me to someone who actually believes in this? Mounts an argument for it? We wonky technocrats like to pretend facts & arguments matter, but it's hard to maintain the pretense when they don't even bother. 😔
