April 1 is an important day in this #COVID19 emergency. The first of the month is the day bills are due — mortgages, rent, utilities, internet. 1/
The world has changed since March 1. Bills that were otherwise routine are now a struggle for many people and small businesses. 2/
Over the last couple of weeks, I've met with utilities, bankers, internet providers, and landlords, with the goal of making sure people and small businesses are treated with compassion and respect. Executive orders, announcements and declarations have followed. 3/
Let me make my expectations clear: No family, individual or small business should face eviction or lose critical services because of hardships caused by #COVID19. It’s basic decency. 4/
At the same time, if you can afford to pay your bills, please do so. The current crisis shouldn't deter you from meeting your obligations. 5/
And if you can’t pay them, please talk to your landlord or bank. I expect them to work with you; to be good citizens; and to treat people and small businesses with dignity — not lock them out or kick them to the curb. 6/
Every day I’m amazed by the good deeds and good acts I’m seeing: Medical professionals who are putting themselves in harm’s way…law enforcement who are keeping us safe despite the uncertainty they face… 7/
...grocery store workers who are keeping us fed and keeping the shelves stocked…families who are teaching their kids at home because schools are closed. 8/
We're all Arizonans, and we’ll get through this together. The next month will be a rough one. Let’s all set the right tone on this first day of the month and make sure our better angels shine through in this time of need. 9/9
