Important update about Coronavirus COVID-19 case reported in Hyderabad. A 24 year old techie who works in Bengaluru had traveled to Dubai on 17th Feb on official work. Apparently few of his teammates came from Hongkong. He came back to India after four days. 1/n
The said techie came to Hyderabad from Bengaluru in a bus. He fell sick after reaching Hyderabad and took initial treatment at Apollo Hospitals, Secunderabad branch. The patient is now transferred to Gandhi hospital and is being treated in isolation ward. 2/n
CM Sri KCR has instructed the Health Dept and Municipal Administration Department to take necessary precautions. Isolation wards have been set up in Gandhi Hospital and Chest Hospital in Hyderabad.
Officials have traced the 27 passengers who have traveled in the bus from Bengaluru to Hyderabad. These 27 and about 80 of their family members will also be screened for #Coronavirus 4/n
Health Minister Sri Eatala Rajender has convened a pressmeet and explained about the various measures taken by Telangana state government to tackle the spread of #Coronavirus #COVID 5/n
Health Minister urged the citizens to be alert and contact a healthcare provider if they notice any symptoms of #Coronavirus #COVID

Minister said an awareness campaign will be launched immediately. CM Sri KCR has assured a dedicated budget to combat the spread of virus.

When fever did not subside, he was admitting into Gandhi Hospital on March 1. After tests and cross checking with NIV, Pune he was declared positive for COVID-19
The TS Health Minister said that patient got in contact with at least 80 people including 20 staff of the corporate hospital, and 27 people in a bus. Total number of members in his family is yet to be known

In 2003, the world experienced an outbreak of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). I was in med school. Initially, the illness seemed to be linked with travel to China, but the Chinese government was not saying anything about it.
The cause of SARS was completely unknown, and it was five months between the illness first appearing and the World Health Organization (WHO) becoming significantly involved, alerting public health authorities around the world.

Our original itinerary started in Ensenada, Mexico, and was scheduled to port in Hawaii, Japan, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, India, Mauritius, South Africa, Ghana, Morocco, and The Netherlands. On Jan. 24, our first day in Japan, we were informed our stop in China had been cancelled
The Institute for Shipboard Education informed us we would be bypassing China completely due to concerns of future ports barring us from entry. This was a fairly big blow to the shipboard community. We continued on to Vietnam, where we stayed for an extra six days.

Contact tracing is painstaking work. It involves identifying all of the known or potential contacts of someone who has the disease in question, finding them, and then isolating them--and then rinsing and repeating.

It's a serious test of your gov's abilities.

It requires that:

1) Gov't is funded appropriately to do this work
2) Gov't employees trust higher-ups to give them bad news, rather than pretend that cases don't exist.
3) Ppl trust their gov't to protect them--and to share information with them
