pt.1 of a detailed in memoriam to Takashi Iwade, the longtime Sega designer who passed away in August of last year cgworld.jp/feature/202004…🇯🇵 it includes comments from former colleagues Manabu Kusunoki, Kentaro Yoshida, Junichi Sudo, Hitoshi Nakanishi Shin Futakawame & Ryuta Ueda
if you're into Panzer Dragoon you'll recognise some of those names but many not be aware of Iwade's contributions: he was the only person to work on all 4 games & he contributed enemy designs, models & animation, vfx, complete art direction on Orta… he even designed the OG logo
something I didn't know until this interview is that Iwade was the co-creator of the "Manga Dimension" cel-shading techniques pioneered with Jet Set Radio's lead artist Ryuta Ueda, which ended up being mimicked across the industry—here's their patent j-platpat.inpit.go.jp/?uri=/c1800/PU…
they ended up using Iwade's techniques on the PS2 Yakuza games as well, which Ueda directed

Iwade was the VFX leader on the Yakuza series for most of its run, and the second part of the article should cover his work on those games in more detail
