I think it’s time for the truth to come out... dirty secrets are not my burden to carry.

I’ll start by saying up until a few years ago, I was fully indoctrinated into toxic police culture. I fully bought into it. If I heard anything like my story I wouldn’t believe it. I’d hold popular opinion that she’s crazy/incompetent/vindictive/lying/slutty and a bitch.

What I have seen and learned about Waterloo police management is unacceptable. The public has a right to know what goes on behind the scenes. #MeToo #TimesUp

First and foremost, I acknowledge my responsibility in contributing to the toxic culture when I was there. I drank the kool-aid, which I now realize was pure #patriarchy. Women are pitted against each other, fighting for table scraps while they enjoy steak.

To the women: I now realize I was a bystander and at times a participant in your sexual harassment and undermining of your work. The word sorry doesn’t cover it. I’m ashamed that I didn’t realize the damage it does until I became a target. I won’t stop trying to make it better.

When I left sick from #Waterloo #Police I took my notes with me for safekeeping. They detailed years of #workplace #sexualharassment . If I didn’t, I knew they’d “go missing.” When I filed a class action against #WRPS They forced me to hand them back or I’d be charged with theft.

I was the only woman detective in the street crimes unit. I was struggling to survive working for Sgt. Cardoza who sexually harassed me. @Chief_BLarkin kicked me out after 7 months without ever inquiring if I was ok, though I was obviously not. I lost my title and raise in 2016.

Though Cardoza was “disciplined”(matter of opinion), I was never given my promotion back. The chief talks about the importance of gender equality, but when women are financially penalized for speaking out, that’s oppression. @LysePascale @OttawaMarch @JILLSLASTWORD @cdnwomenfdn

Today, for #ThrowbackThursday here is my mentor Sgt. Cardoza informing me of rumours that I’m sleeping with a Sgt. Instead of helping me, he says I should have been sleeping with him instead. (My text is white, his is blue, his nickname at work is Gus)

I get upset about the rumours, and he says not to worry, and that he will pull for me. Sgts have power and influence over an officers career. They are often the gate way to career advancement.

I’m coerced into a game of truth or dare. He offers to send me a naked pic. I know he wants a naked pic from me. I decline, but have to be careful because he has influence over my career goals.

After thinking about it, I wanted to report the rumours. He tells me not to report the sexual rumours as it would negatively impact my career, and he thinks I’m just about to be promoted into the drug unit.

This man is still a Sergeant.
He still has authority over women at #WRPS.

He is potentially responding to #rape and #domestic violence calls in the community.

NONE of this is news to Chief Larkin.
