According to information from the country's crisis team, the number of corona deaths in Iran is more than twice as high as stated by the Ministry of Health. "The official statistics have to be multiplied by 2.5 to get the real numbers,"
said Massud Mardani, a member of the Iranian Corona crisis team, of the Isna news agency on Tuesday. According to this calculation, the number of corona deaths would be more than 840 per day - and not 337 as stated by the Ministry of Health.
Other health experts in Iran also share Mardani's assessment. They assume that the officially stated number of deaths is still relatively low because there are too few test options. Experts are therefore calling for an immediate curfew in large cities,
especially in the capital Tehran with its 13 million inhabitants. Otherwise there could be critical bottlenecks in medical care and a shortage of hospital beds. But President Hassan Ruhani is still against it due to economic considerations.

Indonesia is considering reopening its international borders to frequent travellers, even as it is dealing with the largest virus outbreak in the country.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said in a briefing on Thursday (Oct 22) that the issue is still being negotiated by different authorities and the government has not set a time frame for when a decision will be taken.
Since April, Southeast Asia's largest economy has closed its borders to foreign tourists. As coronavirus infections continued to spread across the region, an earlier plan to reopen Bali's tourist hotspot to foreign travelers in September was scuppered.

EU citizens with previous convictions could be turned away at the UK border after the end of the Brexit transition period. This emerges from plans by the British Home Office that have now become known in London.
Specifically, those citizens from the European Union who have spent more than a year in prison or who have committed a crime in the past twelve months are to be denied entry.
However, without an agreement with the EU, Great Britain could have problems checking the criminal history of EU citizens because this would require access to EU databases. This means that even those who have been sentenced to less than a year in prison could be turned away.
