1/The response of #SanDiego Mayor @Kevin_Faulconer when it comes to #homelessness and/or reacting to people protesting his policies that increasingly criminalize families who are #homeless : Call the police
#SanDiego is LAST in CA to use these funds to provide safe, private, secure housing to unsheltered San Diegans
3/ Instead: under @Kevin_Faulconer the @RTFHSD @sdhousingcommision @SDConventionCtr has been re-directing funding to keep the Convention Center operating as a shelter for about 900 people- at a cost of $5.7 million/month
4/ The Chair of the @RTFHSD is @ChrisWard4AD78 who was just elected to the CA Assembly. Here he is (behind "updates") with Faulconer (R) & @SupFletcher (L).
These men are allowing 1000s of people to remain unhoused during the #coronavirus pandemic, even w/the new 10 PM curfew
5/Per this letter (rtfhsd.org/wp-content/upl…) I just called to ask how someone can get a referral to a hotel room: "If a person requires temporary lodging for isolation, please call (858) 715-2350 between 7:004M and 7:00PM ,7-days a week to speak with the Placement Coordinator..."
6/ I explained I had been the Assemblywoman for this district, and people were asking me to help with #ProjectRoomkey
Now I'm waiting for a call back from a "team leader" re:how to get someone into a hotel room.
7/ It's been 2 hours since I called (858) 715-2350
I talked with person who said she would have someone call me back who could explain the process.
If you know someone in #SanDiego who is unsheltered, has a medical condition/is at high risk from #COVID & needs a hotel room to stay in while recuperating & during the new 10PM curfew: please call 858-715-2350 and ask for a referral
9/ It's been 6 hrs- no response. No information on what to tell people who are medically in need of shelter to avoid additional exposure or transmission of communicable disease
This is an ongoing failure to protect #publichealth- but not sure at what level: City? County? Agency?

1/ We have been seeing this in #SanDiego in recent years: "Proud Boys" "Bordertown Patriots" clashed with protesters as @SDSheriff deputies watch- but failed to intervene
"Patriots" used the Sheriff's street address on social media pages promoting events
2/ A screen image of the "Border Patriots" group, showing a variation of the #SDsheriff address as their own.
In June, a group claimed to have "permission" from the Sheriff's office to be out after curfew to help with "protecting personal property." kpbs.org/news/2020/jun/…
3/ The original #KPBS article referred to these armed civilians as "would-be vigilantes."
When it was pointed out that their actions in #Santee made them "actual" vigilantes- they updated their report.
July 2 2017: An "Impeachment Rally" at the County Admin Bldg. is disrupted by #ProudBoys as @SDSheriff Deputies stand back and watch, doing nothing to separate people
2/ Organizers meet w/@SDSheriff Gore to express concern over what appears to be gang violence
Response: it's not an "economic enterprise" so it's not considered "gang related."
Meanwhile: A group called "Bordertown Patriots" uses variation of @SDSheriff HQ address as their own
3/ Aug 12: Heather Heyer killed in Charlottesville
Complaint re:#ProudBoys filed with CLERB: Case 17-056. Witnesses at hearing note protesters are at increased risks of violence from #ProudBoys & others
Aug. 27: Proud Boys travel to Berkeley, are arrested for disorderly conduct

They changed their party registration then worked against #progressives when they run against #moderates. Women of color were especially impacted by moderate party policies & actions in 2018
Both women won- despite institutional #Democrat opposition. Hopefully this teaches local Democrats about the power & need for #diversity & representation in #SanDiego politics
1/ A year ago in #California the work of #TheGeoGroup & #CoreCivic became apparent: they had been contributing to legislators for years, and operating private #immigrant detention facilities that the @ACLU & other accused of abuse.
2/ @TheGEOGroup & @CoreCivic understand how politics work: give money to the party in power. Hundreds of thousand to @California_Dem Party. Tens of thousands to Governor @JerryBrownGov All but one border-region legislator has taken their money. When they were finally caught...
3/ Once caught- some angrily attacked people who questioned their acceptance of private #prison money. They continue sharing it with family & friends, to fund campaigns, curry favor & develop more political power.
