As some states report they’ve run out of #COVID19#vaccines, here’s how the states with the highest population of those above 45 years stack up on vaccinations:
As many as 9.3 million doses, making up 10% of the total vaccines given in India by April 9, were given in Maharashtra, followed by 8.8 million doses in Rajasthan (9.3%) and 8.4 million doses in Gujarat (9%) pib.gov.in/PressReleasePa…
The supply of vaccines to states is not based on the size of their 45+ population, based on data from Census 2011. For instance, Maharashtra with 25 mn such people received 10.6 mn doses, Gujarat with 12.8 got 10.5 mn & Rajasthan with 12.6 mn got 10.7 mn
The number of doses administered is also not proportionate to states’ 45+ population. For instance, West Bengal, with 20 mn 45+ people, has given 7.3 mn doses, including to health & frontline workers, while Gujarat, with 12.8 mn, has given 8.4 mn
In Maharashtra, nearly 25% of the eligible 45+ population (based on Census 2011) has received one dose of the vaccine. This proportion is 17% in Bihar, 27% in Karnataka and 28% in Madhya Pradesh, publicly available data show. These data are not available for all states
The govt is providing #COVID19vaccines for those 45 or older since Apr 1. Vaccination for health & frontline workers had begun on Jan 17; & for those either aged 60+ or aged 45+ but with comorbidities, on March 1
On Day 83 of the vaccine drive on Apr 8, India administered 3.7 mn doses, taking the total doses given to 94.3 mn
India opened up #COVID19vaccinations to the private sector in March 2021 and has completed two months of the programme, achieving 6% of the initial target, we reported on March 17: indiaspend.com/covid-19/india…
Until April 4, 2021, Nuh--among the most backward districts in India-- with a popn of ~1.5 mn, had conducted 18,525 #COVID19vaccinations, the lowest among Haryana's 22 districts. We reported on vaccine hesitancy in the district on April 6: indiaspend.com/covid-19/india…
India has exported 64.5 mn #COVID19vaccine doses to 85 countries. Of this, 35.8 mn were supplied to 25 countries under commercial contracts, 10.4 mn to 44 countries as grants & 18.2mn to 39 countries under COVAX, the global access initiative pib.gov.in/PressReleasePa…
India reported 131,968 #COVID19 cases on Apr 8—42.6% of these in Maharashtra, 8% in Chhattisgarh & 6.4% in UP. 83% of total cases are from these states:
Maha: 56,286
Chhattisgarh: 10,652
UP: 8,474
Delhi: 7,437
K’taka: 6,570
Kerala: 4,353
