This coming from the guy who has threatened the livelihoods of every healthcare worker in the province, while @shandro yells at doctors in their driveways, & who’s policies have prompted hundreds of doctors to close their practice &/or relocate. In a pandemic.
“Health Minister Tyler Shandro said the UCP government would rip up the existing contract and impose changes to billing and compensation after talks with the Alberta Medical Association broke down.”
“Jason Kenney’s health minister holds shares in a private company that connects customers with private insurance coverage for things he’s recently cut.”
.@shandro's wife forwarded emails from her company to her husband's office. His staff responded.
(There were jokes at this time that the best way to reach the minister was to email his wife as many people had difficulty getting a response from the #UCP MLA.)
When the matter came up in #ableg, the #UCP shut down discussion of this problem, stating that Shandro’s shares in Vital Partners were held in a blind trust.
(If that was true, why were emails being forwarded?)
Here's the letter that Ethics Commissioner, Marguerite Trussler, produced for #ableg declaring that there were no grounds to investigate Shandro's conflict of interest. It was dated March 20th, 2020.
Bear in mind, that was only ONE DAY after @karliwithakay posted her thread showing that "Health Minister Tyler Shandro is part owner of private health insurance corporation 'Vital Partners.'"
Ethics Commissioner Marguerite Trussler was quick!🤔
Before the 2019 election, "Kenney said the UCP would maintain or increase health spending and maintain a universally accessible, publicly-funded health-care system." (...) “There will be no cuts.”
On May 14th, the Nova Scotia Supreme Court granted an injunction to "prevent Freedom Nova Scotia and similar groups from staging illegal gatherings in defiance of Nova Scotia's public health orders."
Having travellers quarantine would basically shut down fly-in-fly-out workers at oil camps like those owned by CNRL, which have been hubs of covid spread.
“I actually left a message at the premier’s office. I got our MLA [@DevinDVote] and they just said Alberta Health Services had to deal with it and amazingly enough it went ahead. I just don’t understand,”
“AHS says it is exploring its legal options after hundreds attended a #rodeo near Bowden, about 30km south of #RedDeer, to protest #COVID19 restrictions. It took place on private land after the town's agricultural society revoked its permit.” #ableg
“As Nova Scotia reports *38* new cases of #COVID19–the largest single-day case increase in nearly one year—NS's premier announced tighter restrictions in the #Halifax area...”
“Those boos could have been because Mr. Kenney was dressed like dweeb in a lame “I-heart-mapleleaf-oil-&-gas” bunnyhug, thereby “politicizing” one of the sacred rituals of Canadian professional sports.”
With the news of Derek Chauvin being found guilty in the murder of #GeorgeFloyd, it’s probably a good time to remember that Canada also has deep-rooted problems in policing. 🧵
This starlit beating took place in Calgary in 2013.
“When the officers left him at a desolate construction site, it was –28 C with the windchill, and Addai-Nyamekye was dressed in only a tracksuit and sneakers.”
