Mr Williamson, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to contain my horror at #DfE plans for the return to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿schools this week.

Such insincere tweets are deeply offensive to anyone who’s been personally affected by serious acute #COVID, #LongCovid or been bereaved by it.

Suggesting schools “get back to a greater sense of normality…” during a pandemic of an #airborne 🦠reveals a marked lack of scientific understanding of the issues & is an utterly disingenuous way to present the situation to parents & children who deserve far better.

And to those of us caring for patients to w/ #COVID19 whilst simultaneously trying to tackle the ever growing mountain of non-#COVID care (STILL in sub-optimal #PPE) it is a huge slap in the face.

There is clear evidence that the #DeltaVariant is affecting kids in significant numbers & whilst thankfully only a v small number become seriously ill or die, the more kids catch it, the bigger that number will be.

The same principle applies to #LongCovid -

❗️A small % of a very big number is still a big number❗️

Kids get #COVID, #LongCovid, spread it effectively to friends, teachers & family members who may be elderly, CV/CEV.

I spend much of my working life advising ppl about risk.

You surely accept that CROWDED, POORLY VENTILATED, INDOOR SPACES where ppl mix, talk, laugh, sing etc…ARE HIGH RISK.

This chart isn’t hard to understand - Dining rooms, assemblies, PE halls, classrooms…ALL HIGH RISK!

Add into the RISK assessment for school children that some have had 1 dose of #CovidVaccine but the vast majority are unvaccinated, it is blindingly obvious to EVERYONE other than yourselves that sending children into schools WITHOUT MITIGATIONS is gross #WilfulNegligence!

Don’t wait for PICUs to fill up or more parents to be bereaved before acting @GavinWilliamson - you won’t be forgiven if you do!

Action is needed NOW - fund #HEPA filters/#CO2 monitors, use outdoor spaces,reinstate the 😷mandate, vaccinate the 12-15s, remove penalties etc…
