Does this include extermination of the sixtiers? Do they admit to #Holodomor? Do they condone #Gorbachev’s repression of republics’ protests in the 80s? #Chernobyl victims? If not, it’s another #Russian farce.
I’m so tired of people trying to portray Russians as being these lovely people with a grain of compassion. I can guarantee you these victims only include Russians.
What about deportations and extermination of #crimean tatars?

About terrorist #bombings by #Russia
1) RU's main tool of influence is spreading terror and fear. The goal is to influence policies in different countries. In #Ukraine they try to affect the conduct of the Ukrainian government. (1/x) 🧵
2) Ukraine is becoming the most experienced nation in dealing with this terror tool. Russian intimidation is not making them scared, but more resistant.
Note: They already had #Chernobyl. They've also experienced a politically motivated genocide, #Holodomor. (2/x)

@Flash43191300 HERE IS REAL #Chernobyl story. IN 1992, Bill Zoller, 79, visited Chernobyl a #UW chemistry professor who studied the atmosphere. #AEA asked Zoller, for his assessment of what was going on with Ukrainian reactor meltdown that had taken place on April 26, 1986. #nuclearmeltdown

There is clearly a lot of fear about the #Zaporizhzya Nuclear Power Plant at present. The Russians are making threats, but how seriously should we take them?

What are the real likelihood AND severity of of these threats?

A thread 🧵/1
#ZaporozhyeNuclearPowerPlant
I work as a Clinical Psychologist and have a background in Physics. Last night, I discussed the possible Russian threats to the ZPP with nuclear experts Mark Nelson @energybants and Eugene Shwageraus @shwageraus on the #MriyaReport Twitter Space @MriyaReport /2
When scared about the chances of something terrible happening, we need to ask ourselves:

1) What specifically do I think might happen?
2) How likely is this to happen?
3) How bad would it be if it actually happened?

With nuclear power, we really need to ask & trust experts /3

Latest @DefenceHQ update is on the "Wagner" unit, says its "new level of integration [with the #Russian Army in eastern #Ukraine] further undermines the Russian authorities' long-standing policy of denying links between PMCs and the Russian state". Which is British understatement Image
The #Biden administration continues denying #Ukraine weapons, in this case ATACMS surface-to-surface missiles, because of its deranged fear of #Russia "escalating", as if that is an actual Thing at this point.

Really important question below: why would you even design a T-72 so that the crew literally has to sit on top of hundreds of kilos of highly explosive ammunition and propellant? /1
@clmazin answered this by analogy in his brilliant script for #Chernobyl. In the (fictional) courtroom scene in the final episode, Soviet nuclear scientist Valeriy Legasov explains why Chernobyl was effectively rigged to explode: /2
"It's cheaper". That's the answer to the T-72's design flaws. It's much smaller and lighter than the US M1A1 Abrams or similar British and German tanks. But it costs a fraction of their price, at the cost of crew safety. /3

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...

Some evidence that Russians were indeed dumb enough to dig trenches near #Chernobyl.
See here some previous tweets on why I (and others) think Acute Radiation Syndrome is unlikely, but that doing this is definitely 'not good' and could have health effects in the long term.
Breathing and ingesting dust, smoke, or food from the area stands to raise their statistical lifetime chance of cancer.

Probably no immediate effects, however, because ARS needs a huge radiation shower in one hit, which is unlikely 36y after the accident.
