Preamble 1: From how I interpret the docs, my concerns include:
1) Ambiguous definitions (i.e. "reputable" is not defined w/ metrics to regulate it.) 2) Lacking visible #inclusion of department(s) responsible for upholding #Winnipeg's EDI values.
3) "Being cutoff: Colonial structures fail more than Indigenous Ppl.”
Colonialism oppresses minorities. If MY privilege kept getting shushed, who is NOT getting heard at all? If #Winnipeg owned its harm & "got it," I wouldn't need to get detailed.
I care to ask, "Why do you allow this society to get measured so poorly, time & time again?"
I support the principle of this #policy. I oppose its phrasing. Correct me if I'm wrong - all I interpret from it is, "Use your best judgement & be kind."
If this policy got any softer, it would try to sell MyPillows. It mirrors standards that already exist & costs nothing. Where is the accountability? What are the actionables? If doing what is responsible is free, why hasn't this city been doing it?
#Winnipeg is a @PrideatWorkCAN partner with something resembling an EDI committee. @cityofwinnipeg insists career applicants declare a status: Women, Indigenous People, Visible Minorities & Persons w/ a Disability.
I would say "Woman." #Trans women are women, but is that the representation you want? Would I get the support from discrimination when necessary like your preferred groups?
I'm not going to pretend that I know #Winnipeg's processes. Is a visible DEI process not shown since @cityofwinnipeg can not see DEI beyond what's popular?
I say DEI because the "I" better means "#inclusion," not "initiative."
Before more: 3.2.g: "Be offered in bilingual format." May 5 is #MMIWG2S: National Day of Awareness & Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls & 2-Spirit People. Is there a reason there is no mandate to include an Indigenous language?
It's not my space to discuss the details, and it might not even be a want, for all I know. But if it is, don't you agree that it's an #opportunity and a responsibility?
@cityofwinnipeg, why are you willing to get measured so poorly if you don't?
This #policy addresses tangible measures about what gets said & where. There is no emphasis on whom, aside from a foggy endorsement of organizations with an ethical CSR.
That is where this "Corporate Advertising Policy" fails the @cityofwinnipeg.
This #policy requires judgement & ambiguous processes to handle uncomfortable & critical decisions. These decisions affect the #quality of living of #Winnipeg's citizens and visitors.
Section 3.1: "This #policy does not apply to..." - A policy that does not guarantee best practices in #Winnipeg is a failed one. You protect your vulnerable #people, not clients - especially true re: 3rd parties w/ more loopholes than a spirograph.
Where's Section 3.2.k? Represent the #diversity of our #community at all times. Values include, but are not limited to: #people of colour, #gender diverse people, people's pronouns, people with disabilities, and people suffering wealth #inequality.
Before that, #Energy hired Dave Wheeler, a host released from his last radio position. The release was due to #transphobic#comments after receiving suspensions for racist comments.
@mike_yung@PrairieTheatre@Brittan60572844 Rant incoming. This is exactly why I'm flipping pissed there's no attention on this b/c nearly everyone is assuming the wrong narrative. Press & politics aren't picking it up because they're AFRAID of it being an #LGBTQ+/#trans issue w/o looking past it & seeing the REAL story.
@mike_yung@PrairieTheatre@Brittan60572844 Cyberbullying has infected our community. These users carry very far-right beliefs w/ a very specific agenda: dump Trudeau, dump Singh, cancel The Social, praise Don Cherry, celebrate Adam Skelly (now) & TARGET OUR COMMUNITY. It's incredibly linear, systemic & super predictable.
@mike_yung@PrairieTheatre@Brittan60572844 Considering the political leanings and the fact that it's oh-so-coincidental that OUR community is getting heat, especially yours truly, I struggle to not imagine DW blowing a dog whistle especially considering his COVID beliefs & political leanings, including w/ Gary Marshall.
