#Russia's Chief Rabbi has fled the country because the government tried to force him to support the eradication of #Ukraine. The Russian "denazification operation" has devastated Jewish communities in Ukraine and is now de-Jewing Russia, too.

I thought it was weird to have #PKK advocates in the British Parliament, but they are kept on the fringe. Poor #Sweden is having its entire government and security policy held hostage by a PKK agent. Emotions/morality aside, it's a fascinating case study.
Good thread. It's so clear #Putin still intends to conquer the whole of #Ukraine and is doing this on an ideological basis, which makes him immune to costs that do not physically stop his army. He knows that if he succeeds, he will be remembered fondly.
War is a test of wills, as much as anything else. #Russia's government, having been surprised by the Western reaction, has fallen back on the idea that it can outlast us, that we will lose interest in #Ukraine. Important to falsify that.
#pt: On the plus side, Russia is not well-placed for a war of attrition with a #Ukraine backed by #NATO. We just have to sustain this.

Review of Antony Beevor's new book about the Russian Civil War, says he leaves ideology out as a factor in explaining the cruelty of the war. It's the myth that will never die though to say the the "Whites' ideology" was "ferociously ... antisemitic". newstatesman.com/culture/books/…
There were nominal "White" units, especially in Ukraine, who carried out terrible pogroms in 1919. They did so in defiance of the "White" high command, which repeatedly condemned such behaviour and ordered the protection of Jews.
The problem for the "Whites" on this, as on so much else, was that it was not a unified army in a conventional sense, but a loose movement bound by anti-Bolshevism.

Was certain before checking that this person was American. Putting aside NATO being a Euro-American organisation and the existence of Turkey, this interpretation can only come from someone whose only frame of reference is American racial history and politics.

#Poland's President bluntly criticising #Germany ("doesn't give a damn about what's happening in Ukraine. They want ... cheap gas and oil") and #France. Rejects #Russia's nuclear blackmail as a good excuse for this behaviour.
At every single stage we have had this:
