You've found the start of daily thread number 192 covering #Russia's illegal war in #Ukraine
Last night some stories on the thread included the tale of a kindergarten head sacked in Russia and another chapter in #RussiaOnFire. Catch what you missed:
Quite a few other cities came under fire tonight too.
In #Dnipro a blaze reported after one "arrival".
The usual shelling of southern #Zaporizhzhia region too without much harm while in #Donetsk, the city of #Kramatorsk was hit by #Russia's artillery
In #Dnipropetrovsk region photos of the fires after Russian rockets hit the city of #Dnipro itself (photo #1), and the other photo shows #Marhanets with censorship applied under the terms of Martial Law.
I don't know if #Dnipropetrovsk has the best air defence, the best operators or hides the truth. But once again they claim to have shot down all 5 rockets fires overnight.
The fire and damage was due to fragments falling to ground.
It happened near the Post Office in the occupied town in #Kherson oblast. NK is an important place to try to recapture because of road/transport links. For the moment #Ukraine has fire control.
How artists, despite having the right idea, can make a really bad and offensive mistake.
This is definitely not a war where laying down arms will rectify matters. False equivalency is a big problem for #Ukraine's people.
Please read the short thread:
The funeral of Mikhail Gorbachev is underway in #Moscow.
No state funeral, no Putin, even some media ignoring the last goodbye to the final President of the #USSR, and without whom modern #Russia may not exist.
Seems a collaborator in #Donetsk is starting to realise people may not like occupation after all!
Deputy Head of Kirovsky district, Viktor Antonyuk shouting "You didn’t give a f*** about me!” to locals who have no water - even threatening to withhold a promised barrel of water.
Even at a distance smoke is still visible above #Oleshky in #Kherson region.
Listen carefully and you can still hear explosions, presumably ammunition?
In case you wonder what #Putin's 23 years have done to the mindset of many, take a look at this post by Igor Strelkov/Girkin. He was an architect of the initial invasion in 2014 and for a short while a minister in the "#Donetsk" puppet regime.
A man threw 4 Molotov cocktails at a police station in #Russia.
The incident happened in #Izhevsk where the 25 year old also stabbed two officers during his detention, but police shot him 8 times according to this report.
One officer is seriously ill.
Surprised it took #Russia so long to manufacture this utterly predictable course of action.
"The energy supply from the #Zaporizhzhia plant to territories controlled by Kyiv was suspended after the power line was damaged due to Ukrainian shelling"
A health & spa complex in #Kherson has been shelled.
The "Lost World" site is owned by Russian-imposed "head" of the region Saldo, currently in Moscow recovering from poisoning.
It's reported by locals that Russian troops used the site as a base and relaxing area. #StopRussia
Oh, look at this! They've only gone and hit the #Antonivka area east of #Kherson again.
It could be the Antonivskyi bridge to deter any repairs, location not specified yet.
The #Zolochiv community, less than 20km from the Russian border is badly hit. Local leader Viktor Kovalenko reports buildings of the agricultural firm Alfa were hit this morning.
This afternoon 4 houses and power lines were damaged.
More allegations of breaches of the Geneva Convention.
At a military exhibition a 10 year old boy somehow managed to fire a grenade launcher.
His 12 year old brother is among 8 reported wounded. A two year old is fighting for his life.
Some gas has come through the pipeline connecting #Russia to #Germany. Yesterday the Kremlin claimed repairs were needed and the gas flow couldn't be turned back on
Seeing no great outrage from EU, Moscow probably decided to flick the switch
Around 70,000 are protesting against the pro-western Govt in #Czechia
The far right (anti migration) & far left (Communists) have bizarrely joined forces for the rally in #Prague. One of their complaints is Russian sanctions - but bear in mind RU money has influenced a lot here
The invaders seem to have advanced the front a little near #Bakhmut and #Avdiivka, but Kyiv then reports that they were pushed back to previous positions.
It looks as though the road bridge in #NovaKakhovka (RU: Novaya Kakhovka) has partially collapsed after the incessant heavy artillery fire.
Satellite photos from #Planet show the damage. The railway bridge is still standing but also unusable exactly as #Ukraine has reported.
On the outskirts of #Kharkiv local residents report seeing so called "chandeliers"
Usually lighting munitions rather than phosphorus warheads, but they can still cause fires and destruction as well as lighting up an area to reveal enemy positions/manoeuvres
Pres @ZelenskyyUa demands action against those responsible for allowing children to explode live ammunition in #Chernihiv today
"All those responsible must be brought to justice..
I call on representatives of local authorities to be very careful so that this never happens again."
Another child was killed earlier by Russian shelling.
This time a 9 year old boy died in #Zelenodolsk in #Dnipropetrovsk region. Ten other civilians were injured.
Governor Valentin Reznichenko says Russia used "Hurricanes" (Ugaran) rockets on the people #RussiaIsATerroristState
In #Sloviansk the centre has been shelled according to local reports.
This is in #Chystiakove (formerly #Torez and still the name used by most locals). They say a barn is on fire, though #Ukraine's forces may have identified another Russian base.
Day 1194 of Putin's war, though let's remember the initial invasion came 11 years ago.
Since February 2014, not once have western sanctions or military support come close to being enough to restore justice and defeat evil.
Welcome to THE daily 🇺🇦 thread for Sunday 1 June
A new day, a new season. Summer officially started, but nothing is likely to change just yet.
Y'day's thread had some great stories, but everything paled into insignificance when justy before midnight came news of a disaster in Russia's Bryansk region:
Another night of no sleep yet - dramatic action in Moscow.
Time to start another daily thread covering everything to do with Putin's disastrous 'operation' in Ukraine.
It's 5am in Russia and Ukraine, on Day 1190 of the war.
Let's begin...
I've still NEVER missed even one day since the start of Russia's full invasion.
But yesterday's thread ended up being one of the most lively. Another near 50-post story of the day, and if you like seeing "bavovna" in Russia, go right through to the end!
Good morning on Day 1176 of the war in Europe.
In my opinion, Ukraine should have won this war in 2022/23.
Effective leadership is based on good, decisive decisions. Sadly, the allies have never been decisive, preferring dithering and half measures.
Welcome to my daily thread:
What I mean by dithering is endless internal political battles in most countries to give adequate weapons. Scholz (Taurus), Biden (everything) the most obvious examples, though Joe was hampered by Congress and is way better than now
But it's always enough to survive, not to win
If you missed anything from yesterday, catch up with this link to the start of yesterday's thread. Scroll down to where you got to and complete your knowledge!
The start of a new week and simultaneously almost the end of 167 weeks of Russia's attempt to liberate Ukraine from its leader and remove the country from maps.
It's Day 1167 of Putin's full invasion. Welcome to Monday's daily thread.
First the link back to Sunday's thread for those who were busy y'day
It started with Ukraine counting the cost of yet more strikes on civilians and infrastructure but there were more strategic hits on Russia during the day, incl a night attack on Moscow.
