A new week begins and a bit of a landmark day in #Russia's war as we reach Day 250.
This is the start of the 250th daily thread, with accurate news from #Ukraine. It's still strangely quiet so far, but if you missed yesterday's updates, here's the link:
#Ukraine's state energy company tells civilians there will be no quick end to power cuts.
Indeed, residents are warned rationing will continue throughout winter and may get worse if #Russia's strikes continue.
People are urged to always have essentials/power banks etc charged.
Dutch high-tech companies are unknowingly supplying crucial building blocks for #Putin's war machine in #Ukraine.
Important story, highlighted to me by @VelvetBlade, who points out it's almost certain to be happening elsewhere too.
#Ukraine claims 50 cruise missiles were fired by #Russia and 44 were shot down. That looks far too optimistic right now unless a lot of debris fell and looks like successful strikes.
Each one is a warcrime.
Many places are without water as well as electricity.
More huge numbers in the daily total of #Russia's troops killed (published by #Ukraine)
The number of tanks is high and the 32 APVs destroyed is extraordinary.
This is reflecting the battles in #Donetsk more than #Kherson right now.
As the spokesman for #Odesa region points out, #Russia has, in one morning, spent around half a billion dollars on missiles to attack #Ukraine's people. That's the annual budget of a major city.
We probably won't ever know how many of #Russia's missiles misfired, but this one filmed from #Mykolaiv certainly did. It unilaterally decided not to be a part of the war crimes.
I mentioned earlier the #Kremlin's twin policies of trying to freeze and starve #Ukraine's civilians.
There was not one military target today.
As well as the pre-ordained withdrawal from the grain-export agreement, the theft of other produce, also this:
1/3 It's looking very much like a bid for the Presidency of #Russia by the owner of the #Wagner mercenary group.
Yevgeniy Prigozhin has the pro-war group in his pocket. "Putin's Chef" managed to get the removal of General Lapin last week, proving his power over Defence Ministry
2/3
Until 2 months ago Prigozhin was a somewhat shadowy figure even denying links to #Wagner
But he his own publicity department and it's been active trying to ensure all of #Russia known who he is. Recently demanding Telegram and YouTube be blocked for "unpatriotic" material
3/3 Now Prigozhin starts personal attacks on leading politicians, trying to portray himself as anti-corruption - laughable as he owes everything to #Putin.
He's accused the Gov of St Petersburg of embezzlement and order the Prosecutor General to investigate Aleksandr Beglov.
#Ukraine's Prosecutor General has charged a man from #Luhansk with treason and planning murders of high profile figures.
He was arrested in west Ukraine a couple of months ago. Among his intended assassinations were the Defence Minister, Intelligence Head + a former Azov leader.
#Russia's MOD briefing shows a video of the war crimes being committed with launches of cruise missiles from sea.
In #Kyiv the regional admin is preparing to relocate some residents to ease the burden on water and power requirements.
Purely flag waving and great publicity for #Ukraine to highlight the war crimes being committed.
As I've said in these threads, #Iran won't be expelled. And if they were, replacement should be from Asian qualifying, so #UAE or #Peru (lost playoff to Aus)
Remarkable video of how locals helped rescue a Director of an admin building at one of the substations smashed in this morning's attack by #Russia
This was in #Kyiv region; residents started to dig the man from the rubble until emergency crews arrive. He's recovering in hospital
What a guy!
Amid ongoing powercuts in #Ukraine, one guy in capital #Kyiv is helping.
Using a generator, he's offering people the chance to charge phones and powerbanks during the blackout.
This is in #Podil district, by the big wheel familiar to visitors.
Meanwhile in the north of #Kyiv, lines of people queuing for water in #Obolon district.
Up to 80% of #Ukraine's capital was without running water in the wake of this morning's massive attack by #Russia on civilian infrastructure.
I'll start with a couple of curious updates from stories which broke yesterday...
First the case of one of #Russia's richest men who gave up his citizenship saying he couldn't be a part of a fascist country.
But Oleg Tinkov, who now lives in London, has since deleted this post
Next I am concerned about what's happening to the ships which left #Ukraine's ports yesterday despite #Russia suspending its agreement in grain export.
A flotilla of grain-laden vessels seem to have all turned off transponders, either continuing incognito or anchored off 🇺🇦coast
Day 2️⃣4️⃣8️⃣
Here is the daily #Ukraine news thread for Saturday 29 October, documenting the important news around #Russia's war of choice on its neighbour.
Missed something y'day? Need a round up? Scroll here:
Yesterday #Russia declared mobilisation finished with 300,000 poor souls forcibly called up.
But wait... a Russian 'war blogger' quoting 🇷🇺 MOD sources says the real figure of frontline fodder is 700,000
And the only reason they paused drafting is because of lack of transport!
Having listened to all of #Putin's speech yesterday, it was clear his intention was to portray the US (and allies) as aggressors, and how #Russia only wanted peace.
The world's heard this before.
Putin playing games, seeing how long he can copy his hero
Recently in #Bashkortostan they've found another way to sabotage #Russia's rail network, and no explosives are needed.
Forcing open relay boxes and setting light to them will severely hamper the movement of freight for a while. These boxes control automated signalling etc.
